As a Technician at Free Geek of Arkansas you will gain a broad range of skills working with all types of technology and operating systems. From the average Laptop and Desktop computers, to servers, switches, digital music players, and everything in between. While gaining deep knowledge of Linux, Windows, and Mac systems you will learn how to help people get the most out of what they have. Additionally, you will have a direct impact in giving a second or third life to computing equipment that others have left behind while helping bridge the digital divide by providing useful computing tools to those who need them most. Environmental sustainability is front and center at Free Geek of Arkansas.

daily responsibilities include

  • Diagnose, fix, rebuild, and repurpose a variety of computing equipment and e-waste products

  • Carry out maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on various computers and computing equipment

  • Wipe and certify storage devices for safe reuse and light physical destruction of non-compliant devices

  • Engage donors, customers, staff, and volunteers with a friendly and positive attitude

  • Assist, train, oversee, test, and evaluate volunteers in meeting our mission

  • Maintain reports and document your progress regularly

minimum qualifications include

  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing Windows and Mac software issues

  • Experience opening and repairing Laptop and Desktop computers

  • Experience reconfiguring, testing, and troubleshooting server class computers

  • Ability to install alternative open source operating systems on used computers (Linux/BSD variants)

  • A passion for all types of computing hardware

  • A willingness to work with any hardware + software combination

  • A commitment to working within and for our mission

  • Have integrity in complying with data safety, legalities, and interpersonal interactions

preferred qualifications include

  • Any certifications like A+, LPIC, Cisco, etc.

  • Linux support

  • Apple support

pay range

$15-$25 an hour based on experience. Full and Part-time positions available.
